“Cricket gear designed for the champion in you.”
Donald Bradman scores a 100 in just three overs. It is 1931. The same year that another cricketing legend is born in Meerut, India. Sanspareils Greenlands. Or SG. The now world-famous cricket gear brand.
Fast-forward to 1987. Another legend—this time an Indian—becomes the first batsman in the history of the game to score 10,000 runs. The cricketer? Sunil “Sunny” Manohar Gavaskar. The bat? An SG.
For the Sunil Gavaskars of the past and the Suresh Rainas of today, SG is cricket gear. And cricket gear is SG.
But did you know that SG started selling its cricket gear in India only from 1982? Until then, everything that the company manufactured was exported to wherever the gentleman's game was played.
About 30 years later, SG is not only India's #1 cricket gear brand, it is also the world's largest manufacturer of cricket gear.
SG manufactures everything that a serious cricketer needs: Bats (English and Kashmir willows) . . . Gloves . . . Legguards . . . Balls (leather, synthetic, tennis and practice) . . . Body Protectors . . . Kit Bags . . . Helmets . . . Shoes . . . Clothing . . . and Accessories.
SG cricket gear is virtually made by cricketers for cricketers because the company's R & D team also has access to a panel of well-known first-class and international cricketers.
Some of the many famous names who use SG cricket gear include Rahul “The Wall” Dravid . . . Virender Sehwag . . . and Suresh Raina.
_/_/_/ BATS: English Willow _/_/_/
“Batting for cricket since 1931.”
Sunil Gavaskar preferred his bat to be comfortable and easy on the wrists.
Virender Sehwag picks a bat only if it makes him feel like he can score sixes and fours with it.
Rahul Dravid looks for balance in a bat.
What's important for you or a loved one when picking a bat? Is it comfort? The “feel”? Balance?
It could even be something else entirely.
Although we manufacture everything that a cricketer needs, SG is famous most of all for its bats because some of the most well-known batsmen use and recommend them. Sehwag . . . Dravid . . . Raina . . . the list goes on and on.
But that's not the only reason.
SG bats are developed—like our other cricket gear—with the help of a panel of first-class and international cricketers. Which means that you are guaranteed to find an SG bat that feels like it was made just for you.
At SG we are as crazy about the game as you are. Which is why we also make our bats by hand.
We also air-dry the willow that we use to make our bats. If you are a Sehwag, Dravid or Raina, you wouldn't want it any other way. The air-drying locks in the right amount of moisture. The result? “Confidence, different sound, extra punch, good balance, and good feel,” says former India Under-19 player Manan Sharma.
SG's factory—the largest of its kind in the world—uses English and Kashmir willows to create bats for both the gully greats and the Team India master blasters.
The SG English willow range has 14 varieties (Rs.1,199 to Rs.19,999) of bats. The Kashmir willow range has 10 (Rs.549 to Rs.1,699).
We are so proud of the bats we make that we offer this guarantee to you: If an SG bat suffers damage (as bats often do) or was defective when sold, we will repair or replace it at no charge. Howzzat for a guarantee!
The Legend Series
“Challenges give birth to heroes.”
He stands just 5' 5” tall in his socks. But he might as well be a giant among men for millions of fans all over the cricketing world.
Although he hung up his batting gloves way back in 1987, he remains a respected face and voice on the international cricket circuit. The likes of Tendulkar hang on his every word.
From 1971 to 1987, he averaged 51.12 in tests and 35.13 in one-dayers. An opening batsman unlike any other, he was the first in the history of the game to score 10,000 runs.
The bat he used was an SG.
SG's Legend Series celebrates the cricketing life of the one and only Sunil “Sunny” Manohar Gavaskar.
What a cricketer!
And what a bat!
A Legend Series SG bat is made from some of the finest English willow you can get your hands on. The willow does not become an SG bat unless it has been air-dried.
SG is the only bat manufacturer in the world who bothers to do this. Air-drying helps lock in the moisture. And makes our handmade bats sound great, feel great and help you play like a champion. Air-drying means letting the wood dry naturally. No dryers are used.
There are seven different types of bats in the Legend Series. Sunny Legend. Sunny Gold. Sunny Tonny. Triple Crown. Century Max. Nexus Excel. And . . . Super Cover.
Sunny Legend
Rs.19,999
This is the ultimate SG bat. And we don't say that lightly. The Sunny Legend is made from the best of the best English willow. The bat has thick edges, a bold profile, remarkable balance and—you'll love this—a huge sweet spot. The handle is made from premium imported cane, and features SG's CHEVtec grip for a superior sense of control. In other words, the Sunny Legend is designed for power . . . total confidence . . . light pickup . . . and feels like an extension of your body. A toe protector not only makes sure the bat lasts long, it also helps keep the right amount of moisture locked in. Custom-made and available only in size SH, it comes with a special case featuring a recess for the bat.
Sunny Gold

The Aggressor Series
“For the men playing the gentleman's game.”
They are armed to the teeth with an aggressive take-the-war-to-the-enemy attitude.
They are a new breed of batsmen who have taken the cricketing world by storm.
In Twenty20s, it is the young guns like Suresh Raina who have almost overnight become the game changers. This 20-something lefty averages 33.93 in the newest format of the gentleman's game. But Raina is far from a “gentle” man to many of the bowlers he faces.
In the 5-day version, there are the troublemakers like Virender Sehwag. This spirited strokemaker averages nothing less than 53.43. No one in the history of the 5-day game has scored as many runs faster than Sehwag.
If you count yourself or your loved one among these restless batsmen, the SG Aggressor Series will blow you away.
Five exciting bats made from top-of-the-line English willow fall into the Aggressor Series. For the Twenty20 batsman there is the Stud T-20i or the Stud T-11i. For the test cricketer, the Aggressor Series has the venomous King Cobra, Cobra Max and Cobra Select.
Stud T-20i/T-11i
Rs.14,999
Made for the born-to-attack batsman, the Stud T-20i is the biggest of all SG bats. The bat has been designed from scratch for the Twenty20 format of the game. It has extra-thick edges and a massive profile. The handle is made from premium imported cane, and features SG's CHEVtec grip for a superior sense of control. A toe protector not only makes sure the bat lasts long, it also helps keep the right amount of moisture locked in. Available only in size SH, the bat comes with a padded protective case.
The Stud T-11i has the same features but is more affordable than the Stud T-20i.
King Cobra
Rs.3,999 – Rs.12,999
Like playing attacking strokes? You'll love the King Cobra's beautiful balance and weight (1,150 to 1,250 grams). Made just for the aggressive test batsman, the bat packs exceptional power and has a lightweight pickup. The handle is similar to the Stud T-20i's. Also features a CHEVtec grip and toe protector. The bat comes with a padded protective case. Available in sizes SH, 6 and 5.
Cobra Max
Rs.8,999
Another 5-day bat, the Cobra Max features thick edges to concentrate power hits . . . a phenomenal sweet spot . . . and a balanced pickup. It weighs as much as the King Cobra and has more or less the same features. It comes with a full-length padded protective cover with an adjustable strap. Available only in size SH.
Cobra Select
Rs.5,499
The Cobra Select is a classic 5-day bat and has a traditional shape and curved blade. It also has thick edges. The handle is similar to that found in any other bat in the series. Also features a CHEVtec grip and toe protector. The bat—1,150 to 1,275 grams—comes with a padded protective cover with an adjustable strap. Available only in size SH.
The Dasher Series
“Dynamite on two feet.”
It's either hit out or get out for him . . . or so it seems. Love him or hate him, but you can't ignore this blindingly brilliant batsman. He made his test debut in 2001 and went on to score what would be only the first of many centuries. He was the first Indian ever to reach the 300 mark. And the first Indian to score the most double centuries. And he is a man in a hurry. No one in the history of the 5-day game has scored as many runs faster than the free-spirited “Nawab of Najafgarh”.
SG's Dasher Series of bats is a standing ovation to our very own Virender Sehwag.
If you or a loved one hero-worship or naturally play like him, a Dasher Series bat is all you need to send the competition packing.
There are two English willow bats in the Dasher Series. The VS 319 Ultimate and the VS 319 Super.
The letters 'V' and 'S' are of course the initials of the “Nawab”. The '319' immortalizes Sehwag's highest test score.
VS 319 Ultimate
Rs.6,999
The VS 319 Ultimate has been designed by Sehwag himself. It's just the way he likes a bat to be. Made from select English willow, the bat is extremely light (1,150 to 1,250 grams) . . . has a curved blade . . . thick edges . . . and an extra-high sweet spot for batsmen who love blasting the ball to hell. The handle is made from premium imported cane, and features SG's CHEVtec grip for a superior sense of control. A toe protector not only makes sure the bat lasts long, it also helps keep the right amount of moisture locked in. Available only in size SH, the bat comes with a padded protective cover with an adjustable strap.
VS 319 Super
Rs.3,999
The VS 319 Super is a traditional bat with thick edges and a curved blade. The bat weighs almost as much as the VS 319 Ultimate and has more or less the same features. The bat face is preprepared with tape. Available only in size SH.
The Wall Series
“The ultimate battle of minds.”
He is the old reliable—the “lambey race ka ghoda” of test cricket.
Compared with this maestro, Virender Sehwag seems raw and brash (not that we are complaining!).
This batsman is one of the pillars of Indian cricket. One of the last gentlemen in the gentleman's game. India might never produce a test player of his calibre ever again.
He is one of a rare breed of batsmen who still win new fans for the 5-day format of the game.
Averaging 52.44, he is the kind of senior player that no world-class eleven can do without—even if he does not come through with the bat as much as his critics would like him to.
Scoring 95 on his test debut, he has gone on to successfully adapt himself to all other formats of the game. So much so that this nearly 40-year-old batsman will even be seen in action in the 2011 edition of the IPL.
This by-the-book batsman has an endless supply of both stamina and patience. Ask the opposition. Or the millions of fans. They call him “The Wall”.
If there's one lesson that a batsman—or any cricketer—can learn from Rahul Sharad Dravid, it's this. There is nothing that you can't do if you put your mind to it.
The SG Dasher Series is inspired by Dravid and designed for never-say-die batsmen like him.
Take your pick from the Dasher Series' RSD Ultimate, RSD Pro and RSD Select.

_/_/_/ BATS: Kashmir Willow _/_/_/
“Today's dreamers are tomorrow's champions.”
Did you know that the English introduced the willow tree to Kashmir in the late 1920s?
The Kashmir willow has been used to make cricket bats only since the 1970s.
Bats made from the Kashmir willow are generally considered to be inferior to those made from the English variety. But Kashmir willow bats can be just as durable, balanced and reliable as the English willow bats.
One huge advantage of Kashmir willow bats is the price. Unlike the English variety, Kashmir willow bats are extremely affordable.
SG uses only the best variety of Kashmir willow we can find. The Kashmir willow we use is the type that has been allowed to mature for many years after it was planted. After the tree is harvested, the wood is treated the same way we treat our imported English willow.
One of the most important steps in the bat-making process at SG is air-drying. No other maker of cricket bats in the world bothers to do this.
Why is air-drying so important?
Air-drying means letting the wood dry naturally. No dryers are used. The air-drying of the willow helps lock in the moisture. And makes our handmade bats sound great, feel great and help you play like a champion. Air-drying also helps the bat last longer. Air-drying adds days to the bat-making process. But it's worth it. As you will see when you play with an SG Kashmir willow bat years from now.
SG's Kashmir willow range of bats is ideal for school, college and corporate batsmen . . . league players . . . and even first-class cricketers.

“Live to play. Play to win.”
There is no doubt that we are mad.
Mad for cricket. Mad about cricket.
Mad for cricketers. Mad about cricketers.
Few things stir up our emotions as much as cricket does. It is not an exaggeration to say that cricket is almost a religion with us Indians.
Which is probably why we are one of only five nations to have won the World Cup . . . the #1 test team in the world and the #2 ODI team as of January 2011 . . . and the birthplace of the Indian Premier League, the second-highest paying sports league in the world.
At the top of everyone's list of cricketing heroes are the openers, master blasters, pinch hitters, night watchmen and the wizards of the willow—the batsmen.
Once upon a time, the list included the likes of Sunil Gavaskar. Today, the list also includes the Virender Sehwags . . . Suresh Rainas . . . and the Rahul Dravids.
While millions are entertained and thrilled by these batsmen, there are a few dozen who are inspired by them.
From among these handful of individuals will emerge tomorrow's Gavaskars, Sehwags, Rainas and Dravids.

The International Series
“Professional protection for amateur batsmen.”
In the hands of top bowlers, a cricket ball can hit anywhere from 120 kmph to over 150 kmph. Javagal Srinath . . . Ishant Sharma . . . Ajit Agarkar . . . Zaheer Khan . . . and Ashish Nehra are some of India's fastest.
If you were facing a bowler like any of the gentlemen named above, a good pair of batting pads is simply common sense.
A cricket ball crashing into your knee or shin at even 60 kmph can be nasty.
A serious injury can end a batsman's career even before it begins.
So, how do you choose the right batting pads?
Buy the pad that's of the right size. Bigger is not better. A pad that's a size or two too big for you can interfere with your mobility and game. And it may not even offer the right protection.
When you try on a pad, make sure the centre of the pad's knee roll is where the centre of your knee is—it should not be too high or too low.
Remember, a good pair of batting pads is well worth the price you pay for it.
The SG International Series has six top-of-the-line batting pads for the first-class batsman. Maxilite-XL. Hilite. VS 319 Ultimate. RSD Ultimate. Test. And . . . Nylite.

The Club Series
“Confidence builds champions.”
Imagine scoring 498 runs in a school tournament.
That's exactly what Mumbai's Armaan Jaffer did in 2010.
By piling up nearly five centuries, Jaffer became the highest individual scorer in Indian school cricket history.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu's S. Badrinath finished the 2010-2011 season of the Ranji Trophy with figures of 922 runs, 9 matches, 11 innings and an average of 131.71. Badrinath topped the table of the highest-scoring batsmen.
Mayank Agarwal is one of only three Indian batsmen to figure in the list of the Top 10 Under-19 ODI batting record holders. He scored 160 runs in 2009 against Australia.
Jaffer . . . Badrinath . . . and Agarwal may not be as famous as some of India's top batsmen.
But these youngsters may very well become tomorrow's Gavaskars, Dravids, Sehwags and Rainas.

The International Series
“Superior protection for the safest hands on the field.”
It was Rahul Dravid's part-time job.
Syed Kirmani, Kiran More and Nayan Mongia did it years before him.
M. S. Dhoni still does it. And he does it on a full-time basis like the last three cricketers.
Keeping wickets.
It's a tough job.
Keeping wickets is one job that truly separates the men from the boys.
Not everyone is cut out to be a wicketkeeper.
You either can keep wickets or you can't. It's something you need to be virtually born with.
You need to have the stamina of a marathon runner. The flexibility of a gymnast. The focus of an Olympics shooter. And the mind of a military strategist.
Keeping wickets is a demanding role. Physically. And mentally.
Anyone can field. Not everyone can keep wickets.
Besides stopping the ball from running away to the boundary . . . stumping . . . catching . . . and appealing, the wicketkeeper must also study the man whose back he faces.
The keeper also advises the captain, senior players and the bowlers about the weaknesses and strengths of a batsman.
And after he's done behind the wickets, a wicketkeeper may also be expected to come through with the bat.
Much is expected of a wicketkeeper.
Which is why the SG International Series of wicketkeeping gloves makes no compromises in either protection or comfort.
Wearing a pair of SG's world-class International Series wicketkeeping gloves, you can confidently tackle the fastest balls without risking injury to your fingers, wrists or arms.
The International Series of wicketkeeping gloves has three top-of-the-line pairs of wicketkeeping gloves. Hilite. Supakeep. And . . . Test.
Hilite

The Test pair is made from excellent supple leather. It has all-leather palms, backs and cuffs . . . generous catching pockets . . . mesh inserts on the back for ventilation . . . and white padded and toweled linings in the cuffs.
The Pro Series
“For specialist cricketers only.”
Every wicketkeeper needs a good pair of gloves. It's compulsory.
And it doesn't matter if he is standing up or standing back.
A wicketkeeper worried about finger, wrist and arm injuries is not a confident wicketkeeper. He is a liability to himself and to the entire team.
A wicketkeeper may keep wickets by the book. He may practice keeping wickets for hours. But without the right pair of wicketkeeping gloves he might as well have two left hands (or two right hands if he is a lefty!).
The main purpose of wicketkeeping gloves is to of course prevent injuries, which can end a cricketer's career in a matter of a few seconds.
Wicketkeeping gloves act as shock absorbers. They cushion the impact of the ball when it comes in contact with the wicketkeeper's hands.
A good pair of gloves also help make the wicketkeeper the safest pair of hands on the field.
The SG Pro Series of wicketkeeping gloves is designed for young cricketers who have the talent and the desire to keep wickets.
Youngsters who are inspired by and look up to past and present keepers such as Kirmani . . . Mongia . . . More . . . Dhoni . . . even Gilchrist . . . Boucher . . . Sangakkara and others.
The Pro Series has four wicketkeeping gloves that provide the level of protection and comfort expected at the international level. Tournament. League. Super Club. Club.

The International Series
“Be prepared to face the unexpected.”
A good pair of pads is as important to a wicketkeeper as a good pair of wicketkeeping gloves.
A wicketkeeper has to be athletic. If he isn't, he can't expect to be a success keeping wickets.
Besides his hands, a wicketkeeper also uses his legs to deal with runaway balls.
A wicketkeeper's knees need the most protection. They often bear the full brunt of the impact of the body coming into contact with the ground. Which could be anywhere from a few inches to several feet below him.
When you try on a pair of wicketkeeping pads, make sure the centre of the knee rolls is where the centre of your knees is—not too high or too low.
The right size is also important. And not only to avoid injury. A pair of wicketkeeping pads that's too big or too small can interfere with your mobility and performance out in the middle.
Proper padding is also essential. A ball can rise or stay low without warning. A good pair of wicketkeeping pads should act as a shock absorber. It should protect the entire front part of your leg that begins at the top of the knee and ends where the shin meets your foot.
A good pair of wicketkeeping pads not only protect wicketkeepers from falls and impacts. They are also extremely comfortable.
The SG International Series is the ultimate range of lightweight professional wicketkeeping pads. The series has three select pairs. Megalite. Hilite. And . . . Super Test.
Megalite
Rs.1,549
The Megalite features imported PU facing . . . high-density foam construction with broad foam centre strip for extra shin protection . . . high-density sponge-filled bolsters . . . and wear-resistant PVC insteps with hardwearing piping.

Super Test
Rs.869 – Rs.949
Similar in many ways to the Megalite, the Super Test also features low-density foam and cane construction for a traditional look . . . high-density foam-filled top hat . . . and three paneled top hat construction. The Super Test is also available in a size suitable for younger wicketkeepers.
The Pro Series
“Never give up. Never give in.”
Wicketkeeping is not a glamorous job. At least not as much as batting or bowling. Or even fielding.
Almost every Indian wicketkeeper over the years has been expected to do more than just keep wickets.
Former keepers Kirmani and Mongia had to pick up the bat, walk out to the middle and prove their worth all over again . . . after spending the entire day keeping wickets.
Even Rahul “The Wall” Dravid kept wickets for a while. But millions of fans still expected him to wear the opposition down with the bat. Regardless of how well he did behind the wickets.
Most quietly get on with the job of keeping wickets and even contribute with the bat.
But there are a few livewires who electrify the entire team on and off the field.
The enthusiasm of these “cheerleaders” energizes their teammates. And irritates the rival batsmen to no end.
These special individuals have a big heart. And are ready to play any role they are asked to with the same confidence that they keep wickets.
An SG Pro Series pair of wicketkeeping pads is designed for the livewire wicketkeeper. And like him, it can confidently tackle any challenge that the game may throw at it.

_/_/_/ PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT _/_/_/
“Feel invincible.”
The world's best cricketers wear protective equipment.
Every cricketer should.
It's not enough to protect just your head, hands and lower legs.
Thighs. Elbows. Chest. Groin. They all need to be protected too.
Not only from the cricket ball, which weighs about 160 grams and is not to be taken lightly. But also from falls and dives and player collisions.
Cricket can be an unpredictable game. And injuries are all too common.
But good protective equipment—like what SG makes—can give you the confidence to give the game your best without worrying about injury.
Batsman. Wicketkeeper. Close fielder. No matter who you are, SG's protective equipment is designed not only for your protection. It is also designed for your comfort.

_/_/_/ SHOES _/_/_/
“Put your best foot forward on the field.”
You've got to be confident on your feet out in the middle.
It doesn't matter if you are a school cricketer or one of the Men in Blue like Rahul Dravid . . . Virender Sehwag . . . or Suresh Raina.
You need to be able to launch yourself up in the air . . . leap sideways . . . boldly step or launch yourself forward to meet the ball . . . bend, retrieve and release . . . stop your body's momentum . . . get back on your feet quickly . . . go for the catches that win matches . . . and do a whole lot more.
Great footwork separates the specialist batsmen from the tail-enders. But even a specialist batsman can end up looking like a tail-ender if he feels like he's standing on ice. Running between the wickets is also vitally important. And so too is a bit of athleticism. If you are a batsman, wouldn't you be confident wearing the right shoes?
And if you are a bowler? A bowler's knees and feet suffer the most. The next time you get a chance to watch a Zaheer Khan or an Ishant Sharma in ultra slow motion on the TV, pay special attention to his feet and knees moments before he releases the ball. You can virtually feel the shock running up the bowler's legs. A good pair of shoes are in many ways a bowler's best friend.
And what if you are a wicketkeeper? Wicketkeepers are the unsung heroes of the game. Not only do they tirelessly keep wickets. Many of them are also expected to pick up the bat and prove their worth all over again. The constant running, jumping, falling, squatting, standing and scrambling behind the wickets takes a heavy toll on the feet and knees. And no sensible wicketkeeper will ever walk out to the middle without wearing a good pair of shoes that can also cushion most of the shock.
It goes without saying that fielders too need a good pair of shoes. A sloppy fielder is not a beautiful sight to behold. Makes the team lose face. Sloppy fielding doesn't sit well with the bowler. Not to mention the captain. And sloppy fielders don't last long if they are also no good in the bowling or batting department.
SG shoes are virtually designed for cricketers by cricketers. A panel of international cricketers helps SG stay one step ahead of the needs of serious cricketers.

_/_/_/ CLOTHING _/_/_/
“Power dressing for cricketers.”
You can wear whatever you can grab. Like most cricketers.
Or you can dress for success. Which only a few cricketers do.
Which side are you on?
Cricket today isn't just about what you can do on the field. It is also about how good you look doing it.
If you've seen Suresh Raina in action, you will know what we are talking about.
Raina is not only one of India's most promising batsmen. He is also one of the best fielders in the side.
And doesn't he look good with the bat? Doesn't he look sharp in the field?
“Clothes make a man,” Mark Twain said half-seriously.
But it may well be true in the case of cricketers today.
Got the talent, got the looks and also dress for success?
Who knows. You may very well sign a multi-crore contract of your own a few years from now.
The SG clothing range is designed for cricketers like you. Cricketers who understand that the right image can be as important as a chance to move closer to the Men in Blue.
_/_/_/ HELMETS _/_/_/
“Helmets for tomorrow's batting legends.”
Do you know why the legendary Sunil Gavaskar never wore a proper helmet?
His habit of reading in bed apparently resulted in weak neck muscles.
Gavaskar feared that a helmet would slow down his reaction time to bouncers.
But Gavaskar—this may come as a surprise to you!—was one of the first batsmen to use head protection.
His “skull cap”—which he wore under his hat—looked like a plaster cast and is almost as famous as the man himself!
It's nearly 25 years since Gavaskar hung up his batting gloves.
If Gavaskar played today, he would have without doubt walked out to the middle wearing one of the modern helmets such as the ones made by SG.
Unlike the helmets of 25 . . . 15 . . . or even 10 years ago, SG helmets weigh very little. Which is important. Because a heavy helmet is not only uncomfortable, it can even interfere with a batsman's concentration and reaction time.
SG helmets offer the reliable protection a batsman needs in today's version of the game. Helmets not only protect the head. They also protect the batsman's face, throat, and even the neck from impact.
Balls that unexpectedly rise . . . deliveries that come off the bat into the batsman . . . misthrows by fielders . . . colliding with a bowler, fielder or fellow batsman . . . diving into the crease to avoid run outs . . . aggressive bowlers . . . .
There are many reasons why a helmet is compulsory if you are a serious batsman.
SG helmets are made from materials which are widely used for their protective impact-resistant durability. The materials are carbon . . . polypropylene . . . acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or ABS . . . and nylon.
The grill of the helmets is of course made from strong steel.
SG makes Fabric and Moulded helmets. The Fabric variety has two helmets. There are five Moulded helmets.

“Play your part. Look the part.”
Do you know how the term “hat trick” was born?
In 1858, an English bowler named Heathfield Harman Stephenson was gifted a hat after he took three wickets in three consecutive balls in a domestic match.
And can you tell why an amateur cricketer would jump at the chance to say “YES!” to receiving his first cap?
The answer?
Traditionally, a player making a first-class or test debut was given a cap for real.
Which is why the cap also gives us the term “capped”. If a cricketer plays 100 matches, for example, he is said to have been “capped” 100 times or received 100 “caps”.
Famous caps and hats include the baggy caps worn by the Ashes players and the “Panama” hat worn by the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, who wore the famous “skull cap” underneath his.
SG has four different types of caps and hats suitable for everyone from the Rahul Dravids to the Suresh Rainas.

Sunny Gold
Rs.9,999
The traditional Sunny Gold almost succeeded in persuading Gavaskar to come out of retirement! This SG bat—1,175 to 1,275 grams—has contoured edges and is extra thick around the sweet spot. The handle is made from premium imported cane and features the CHEVtec grip. The bat also features a toe protector. It comes with a full-length padded protective cover with an adjustable strap. Available only in size SH.
Sunny Tonny
Rs.2,799 – Rs.7,999
This is the bat that Gavaskar himself used. The Sunny Tonny is a traditional no-frills bat. It features thick edges and a curved blade. The handle is made from premium imported cane and has the CHEVtec grip. The bat also features a toe protector. The Sunny Tonny comes with a full-length padded protective cover with an adjustable strap. Available in sizes SH, 6, 5, 4 and 3.
Triple Crown

It weighs 1,150 to 1,300 grams. It is available in sizes SH, 6, 5, 4 and 3. The bat comes with a full-length plain cover with an adjustable strap.

There are ten different types of SG Kashmir willow bats. Cobra Gold. Strokewell. Boundary. VS 319 Plus. Reliant Plus. Cruiser. Optipro. Nexus Plus. Phoenix Xtreme. And . . . MaxCover.

The Pro Series
And to these individuals is dedicated the SG Pro Series of batting gloves.
If you dream of one day stepping into the shoes of your favourite world-class batsman, then you are the kind of guy who will truly appreciate the Pro Series.

Those who want to be counted among the next generation of India's cricketers 'must have a passion and a dream . . . and follow it' says Rahul “The Wall” Dravid.
Virender Sehwag believes that 'you can achieve whatever you want to if you have a passion [for] the game and . . . if you are ready to work hard'.

Great advice from three batting greats.

Hilite. Supakeep. And . . . Test.

_/_/_/ WICKETKEEPING PADS _/_/_/
Megalite. Hilite. And . . . Super Test.
Megalite
Rs.1,549

Cricket can be an unpredictable game. And injuries are all too common.
But good protective equipment—like what SG makes—can give you the confidence to give the game your best without worrying about injury.

FABRIC
CarboFab
